Updating your Verizon cellphone can be done quickly and easily.

Verizon Wireless updates its towers and cell service continuously, but that doesn't mean your phone automatically gets updated.

Did you know that Apple often updates i OS, adding new features and cool new tools?

To make sure that your i Phone is running the latest version of i OS, you'll need to connect it to your computer and download the update using i Tunes.

An older example: The battery-life problems with the i Phone 3G, which were addressed by Apple via a software update within days of the phone hitting the market.

However, software updates aren't only to remedy problems.

Many of the early cell phones were considered to be “car phones,” as they were too large and cumbersome to carry around in a pocket or purse.

You can experience fewer dropped calls, better service and more bars. When prompted, press 2 to update your roaming capabilities.

Note: Apple's updater is likely to suggest additional software that you can download (such as the Safari browser); none of this is necessary.

You can download it if you like, but you don't need it to update i Tunes.

If i Tunes tells you that a more recent version of the application is available, download it.

Accept all prompts necessary to install the updated software.Updating your cellphone will just take a quick call to an automated service number. You'll see a message on your phone that says "Activate your phone" while the update takes place. It may take up to two minutes to fully update your phone. Your phone will display a message like "Phone is activated" after the process is finished. It may take up to 15 minutes for the update to register with your phone. Manufacturers and carriers also use them to add new cell phone features or capabilities.
